Dr. Samar Mukallid has a PhD in Special Education from Columbia University, New York City and an MA in Educational Psychology, School Guidance and Counseling from the American University of Beirut (AUB). Dr. Mukallid was for 22 years a faculty member in the Department of Education at AUB. Major responsibilities involved teaching graduate courses in School Counseling and Special Education. She served as the chairperson of the Department’s Curriculum and Examination Committee for over 10 years. She was a coordinator of many AUB professional development external projects in the Arab region. She established Special Education Service units in many schools in Lebanon. She introduced the concept of developmental school guidance and counseling to the public school system in Lebanon.
Dr. Mukallid resigned from AUB in June 2012 to join her family in Saudi Arabia. She worked as consultant to the rector at Princess Nora University for Women (PNU) in Riyadh during 2012 – 2013. Her responsibility was mainly review and development of the Special Education program in the Faculty of Education at PNU.
Dr. Mukallid joined BTC as assistant professor in 2015. She was appointed Head of the Department of Education Studies from 2017 to 2020.
Her research interests are in the design of developmental preventive School Guidance and Counseling curricular material and corrective Arabic and Math curricular material at the preschool and elementary school level.
